Today's Devotional Scriptures: Revelation 22:13
I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last. - Revelation 22:13
“He knows everything from A to Z about football!” You have likely heard that phrase—“from A to Z”—before. The technical term for that phrase is merism—using two contrasting parts of a whole to refer to all the separate parts. Instead of describing everything the person knows, you say he knows football “from A to Z.”
The Bible contains merisms: contrasting heaven with hell in Psalm 139:8 and contrasting the present with the future and heights with depths in Romans 8:38-39. But Jesus Christ also referred to Himself in such a way. He is the Alpha and Omega (the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet), the Beginning and the End, and the First and the Last. In each case, He meant “and everything in between.” In other words, Christ is Ruler over all, over everything, over everyone—similar to “King of kings and Lord of lords” (Revelation 19:16). Nothing and no one can approach the power and authority of Jesus Christ.
Jesus knows the beginning and ending of your days—and every day in between. He is Lord over all.

When I saw him I fell down at his feet as though I were dead, but he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid! I am the first and the last, and the one who lives! I was dead, but look, now I am alive—forever and ever—and I hold the keys of death and of Hades!
