Music is an important part of worship
Whether you're a Christian or not, you've probably heard of or even attended a Christian church service that incorporates music and dancing. But what does music and dance have to do with Christianity?
Music has always been an important part of worship -- it was particularly prominent in the early church, when Christians would sing praises to God. As Christianity spread throughout Europe, so did this activity. This trend continued into the Medieval period as European churches built elaborate cathedrals that required musicians to play complex instruments like harpsichords or even organs! In fact, some argue that Medieval music was responsible for the spread of literacy through its ability to teach people how to read and write - something which is still relevant today!
For today's church it means much more. Music and dance, which at first may seem non-Christian or non-scriptural, are now incorporated as part of Christian worship because it is a whole offering of one's self to God. The relationship between music and dance in Christian churches can be traced back to the Bible. Several verses in the holy book reinforce this interesting link between rhythm and religion. For example, in Ephesians 5:19-21, Paul wrote, "And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs about God's kingdom."
be filled by the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music in your hearts to the Lord, Ephesians:5:19-20
Music and dance is how Christians express their love for God and how they desire to experience intimacy with Him. It is a form of expressing love and adoration for God. Collectively, this form of expression can strengthen faith and affect others positively; therefore, there's no better way than singing in unison as part of worship when attending a church service. In a world where everything seems to be going "out of control" (if you ask me), it's easy to get discouraged — but creating order and reducing disorder requires cooperation. The dynamics of a huge choir are quite similar in this respect.
Music is a gift from God and it has the power to bring good energy in the human soul. I believe that music and dance have a role in the healing process of our society and our world because it lifts up people's spirit, makes them forget all their negativity, worries and problems. Music can be considered as a universal language that enlightens our lives bringing happiness, joy and love into your lives daily. A part of human nature, music and dance has the power to change the mood of any individual or even a group of people. You can say that music has a soul.
I hope this article has helped you understand why Christianity has so much to do with music and dance. As we understand our love for God through music and dance, the relationship gets stronger in both directions, this inspires us to love Him more. It is my prayer that we can all learn from the example of our Lord, who was the perfect example of humility and love for all people. He taught us by his life how to live with one another in peace and harmony through the power of God's Holy Spirit, who calls us into fellowship with Himself through faith in Jesus Christ our Lord.
